Children and young people have a right to receive a suitable education. A good education will prepare children for life and allow them to achieve their full potential. Children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities may require provisions to support their needs and attend a particular school that can meet those needs.

Our solicitors deal with cases from across England and Wales. Both countries follow a similar set of guidelines and procedures for dealing with special education needs, however there are some subtle differences which our solicitors are well equipped to tackle. See below for the terminology:

SEN – England

Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is a legal document that describes a child or young person’s special educational, health and social care needs

ALN – Wales

Independent Development Plan (IDP).
